Paeonia lactiflora. Easy-to-grow, deer-resistant perennials, Herbaceous Peonies require a cool winter climate to satisfy dormancy requirements; well-draining, loamy soil; air circulation; generous sunshine; spring moisture and finally, staking to support abundant flowers. Best planted in the fall for thorough root system development and nutrient storage, our Peonies have been divided and nursery-grown in the Netherlands for two years prior to export. They each have three to five eyes for the best possible flower production the first spring (some rootstocks may be trimmed of old wood to allow new root growth). Double varieties may bloom as semi-doubles the first year depending upon the weather, with more full double flowers as the plants mature over time. Prized as cutting flowers, double varieties have an unmatched, addictive fragrance. Both double and single varieties are perfect mates for Allium, Eremurus and Asiatic Lilies in perennial beds. May/June. Plant 2" beneath the soil surface and 3' to 4' apart. HZ: 4-8. 2' to 3' tall and 3' to 4' wide.
