Welcome to our Fall 2021 collection and to our new website! Please order your family’s flower bulbs now for shipment in the coming weeks. The pandemic gardening upsurge caused us to start selling out much earlier than usual, despite having imported considerably more Dutch flower bulbs. The soaring passion for gardening ontinues unabated, a good thing, but that may mean that we’ve sold out of a family favorite. If you need help with ideas for beautiful alternates, call us at 860.567.0838. We apologize for a longer than usual phone que. We have friendly, knowledgeable flower bulb lovers here to help you from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm weekends. To avoid frustration, please examine what is still in stock on our AVAILABILITY LIST.
Shipping and Planting
We’re shipping orders all over the US now, colder areas first. We’ve received most of our Eremurus, Lilies, Peonies and Amaryllis with only a couple of stragglers coming in early the week of November 1st. In general, flower bulbs should be planted when the garden soil has cooled down to around 55°F. That’s usually after two weeks of sweater weather when the nighttime temperatures have hovered in the 40°F range. There’s usually even a killing frost or two prior to bulb planting time. Planting bulbs when it is too warm may inhibit mature root growth and yield wasted top growth. No more than a 2” layer of mulch should be applied to bulb beds after the surface soil has frozen. It is supposed to trap the cold in the soil, not the warmth. Water lightly if it hasn’t rained or if rain is not anticipated in the short term. Learn more HERE.
Thank you for planting it forward so that your families, friends and communities may find joy and solace in the beauty that you create in the world. Our gardens are a gift we give to each other, the bees and helpful pollinators. Beauty from bulbs is the art and soul of spring. On behalf of the Ohms family, we thank you for allowing us to be part of your gardens. From the Netherlands to Bantam, CT, we work hard to make sure that the bulbs your receive from us are top-quality and top-sized: simply the best. Our homes and communities are better places with the easy magic and beauty from Dutch flower bulbs. Never underestimate the power of planting. Photo banner: Small Cupped Narcissus Barrett Browning.
